In a staggering drug bust in Malaysia, three suspects, including a married couple, have been formally charged with trafficking 510 kilograms of methamphetamine. The accused, Mohd Rizuan Ramli, Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court in Kangar.
These charges stem from an operation that occurred on March 24 in Wang Kelian, where law enforcement alleges the trio trafficked a significant quantity of drugs, specifically 510,000 grams of meth. The illicit substances were reportedly found near a TNB substation along Jalan Wang Kelian, not far from Padang Besar.
During the court appearance, no plea was entered since such serious charges are categorized under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The trio acknowledged the charges as they were read out in front of Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
Filed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, one of Malaysia’s toughest drug regulations, the accused could potentially face dire consequences, including the death penalty or life imprisonment, supplemented by a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Bail was denied for all parties involved, highlighting the gravity of the allegations. The next court session is set for July 2, pending the results of a chemical analysis report.
Leading the prosecution is Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan, with the accused being defended by legal representative Nur Iman Nor Azmi. Authorities maintain a focus on the case, considering it a significant drug trafficking operation.
