Hanoi welcomed the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, from April 12 to 14, 2026, in a ceremony at the Presidential Palace organized by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. This occasion is pivotal for enhancing bilateral relations.
Upon arrival, PM Le Minh Hung expressed his delight, emphasizing the significance of this meeting as it marks his inaugural international engagement. The visit underscores the enduring friendship and the growing partnership between Vietnam and Slovakia.
This marks the third time Robert Fico has visited Vietnam, following his trips in 2008 and 2016. He becomes the first senior EU official to arrive in Vietnam since the elevation of relations between Vietnam and the EU to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The ceremony featured a warm welcome, including a red carpet, national anthems, and an honor guard inspection by the Vietnam People’s Army. The two leaders also presented their delegations, symbolizing mutual respect and cordial diplomacy.
After the welcoming, the leaders moved to the Government Headquarters for discussions and oversaw the signing of agreements. They visited an exhibition that showcased the deep-rooted history and culture linking Vietnam and Slovakia.
In recent years, the economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Slovakia have flourished, with a projection of nearly $1.78 billion in bilateral trade by 2025. Slovakia's investments in Vietnam have also surged, reflecting a strengthened economic connection.
This visit aims to bolster political trust, broaden cooperation in sectors like trade, technology, and culture, while paving the way for new collaborative ventures between the two countries.
