Manila: Visiting South Korea is set to become easier for Filipino travelers as new visa simplifications take effect from February 20, 2026.
The announcement was made by the Korea Visa Application Center (KVAC), operating under the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Manila. The move aims to enhance convenience for applicants and encourage more tourism and visits.
Key Visa Changes
The updated rules reduce paperwork and simplify documentation requirements for many applicants:
No bank certificates or ITRs required for premium credit card holders (Gold/Elite cards from select banks). The previous requirement of three-month bank statements has been waived for them.
Students now need to submit either an original school certificate or a copy of their student ID — not both.
Family or group applicants can share one set of common documents, such as invitation letters and proof of relationship, in the main application file.
Employment documents no longer require explanation letters if there is no landline number or if e-signatures are used, provided mobile numbers and email addresses are included.
Additional Benefits
These updates build on earlier travel perks. The Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) waiver has been extended until December 2026 for eligible visa-exempt stays of up to 90 days. Simplified procedures for select credit card holders will also continue in 2026.
Boost to Tourism
The policy aligns with Seoul’s efforts to increase inbound tourism after the pandemic. In 2025, the Philippines recorded a surge in visitors to South Korea, reaching record levels.
For many Filipinos — especially fans of K-pop and K-dramas — the changes make trips to Seoul, Jeju Island, and other popular destinations more accessible. Increased tourism and more direct flights between the two countries are expected.
Estimated Travel Costs
A budget trip from the Philippines to South Korea typically costs between ₱20,000 and ₱40,000 for 5 to 7 days, excluding major shopping expenses.
Roundtrip flights: ₱7,000–₱15,000 or more
Accommodation: Hostels to guesthouses depending on preference
Food and activities: Based on personal spending habits
Visa fees and travel insurance costs are not included in this estimate.
With fewer documents and a smoother application process, more Filipinos may soon find it easier to visit South Korea for tourism, family visits, and cultural experiences.
