Malaysia to Transition Biodiesel Blend from B10 to B15

Post by : Shakul

The Malaysian government is poised to elevate its biodiesel blending rate from B10 to B15 to tackle fuel supply issues and lessen reliance on imported fossil fuels.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir indicated that the initial conversion will commence with B12, leveraging existing infrastructure to facilitate this change without incurring further expenses.

This initiative emerges in light of ongoing global energy unpredictabilities tied to the conflict in West Asia, which has caused disruptions in fuel markets and heightened concerns regarding long-term supply security.

Official statistics reveal that Malaysia produced 975,207 metric tonnes of biodiesel in 2025, with a total production capacity of 2.36 million metric tonnes. This underscores the nation’s sufficient industrial capability to accommodate higher biodiesel blends.

The government perceives biodiesel as an immediate and viable solution to lessen dependence on fossil fuels. Notably, current supply chains, blending facilities, and infrastructure are set to aid the transition effectively.

Officials pointed out that an increase in biodiesel usage could also prolong the nation’s diesel reserves. Future strategies include enhancing facilities to enable higher blends such as B20 and B30, especially for commercial and public sectors.

The government intends to collaborate with industry stakeholders to ensure efficient implementation. It will also monitor global trends diligently while striving to develop a more robust and sustainable energy infrastructure.
