KL Tower Bribery Case Transferred to High Court

KL Tower Bribery Case Transferred to High Court

Post by : Shakul

Kuala Lumpur, April 14, 2026 — Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, along with its director Abdul Hamid Shaikh Abdul Razak, has applied for their bribery case to be moved to the High Court. Allegations involve a reported offer of RM500,000 annually over a 15-year period relating to the acquisition of the Kuala Lumpur Tower concession.

The request, submitted on April 1 through legal representatives, lists the public prosecutor as the responding party. The defense insists that significant legal and constitutional complexities should be handled by the High Court rather than the Sessions Court.

Abdul Hamid’s affidavit raised issues regarding self-incrimination and the risk of double jeopardy, given that he and the company face separate charges stemming from the same allegations.

He maintained that having the case heard in the High Court would provide a better framework for interpreting constitutional issues and would facilitate appeals to higher courts, should the need arise.

The charges originate from an alleged bribe offered to former Communications Minister Annuar Musa to aid in the KL Tower concession takeover, reportedly occurring between July and August 2022 in Putrajaya.

In recent court updates, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar announced that the High Court is set to hear the transfer application on May 15, which has led the Sessions Court to cancel trial dates on May 7 and 8 while awaiting the outcome.

Per the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, the implications of these charges are severe, potentially leading to 20 years in prison or hefty fines. The case's intricate legal issues and prominent figures involved have kept it in the spotlight.
