The Malaysian government has rolled out increased subsidies and cash aid aimed at supporting farmers, small-scale producers, and diesel users as fuel prices rise and global supply chains face disruptions. This initiative is part of the government’s strategy to uphold food supply stability.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that the availability of essential goods is a crucial focus for the administration. He highlighted that the government is ready to boost expenditure to mitigate the effects of soaring global energy costs.
As part of the new initiative, the Paddy Cultivation Incentive has been elevated from RM160 to RM300 per hectare for the 2026 planting season, aimed at benefiting roughly 200,000 farmers nationwide.
In addition, the cash assistance for diesel under the Budi Agri-Komoditi and Budi Individual Diesel programs will see an increase from RM300 to RM400 per month starting in April 2026, with payments to commence on April 21.
These support programs are anticipated to assist over 200,000 farmers and smallholders, along with around 150,000 diesel vehicle operators in Peninsular Malaysia. Further funding has been designated to back these efforts.
Moreover, authorities have confirmed a relaxation of requirements for diesel purchases—allowing farmers and equipment handlers to buy larger diesel quantities without needing special permits, provided proper documentation is presented.
The Ministry of Finance indicated that total subsidy expenditures for April 2026 could climb to approximately RM7 billion. The government will remain vigilant regarding global events, particularly the ramifications of the West Asia conflict, and may implement additional measures if deemed necessary.
