Manama: Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has ordered the pretrial detention of several individuals accused of involvement in an espionage network linked to Iranian intelligence agencies and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to an official statement, the case came to light after Bahrain’s intelligence services conducted extensive investigations into the suspects’ activities and alleged foreign connections. The individuals were subsequently arrested on suspicion of coordinating with external entities.
The Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution revealed that the accused were assigned to monitor sensitive and strategic locations across the Kingdom. Their role reportedly included collecting critical information that could be used for planning potential future attacks.
Authorities also stated that the suspects were instructed to document the aftermath of hostile activities by capturing images of damage and destruction, suggesting a coordinated effort to assess and report operational outcomes.
The Public Prosecution has initiated a formal investigation and interrogated the detainees. A court order has been issued to keep them in custody pending further inquiries as authorities continue to uncover details of the alleged network.
Officials emphasized that investigations are ongoing, with a focus on ensuring national security and identifying any additional individuals involved in the case.
