Supplier of Ketamine to Matthew Perry Receives 2-Year Sentence

Post by : Bianca Haleem

A man who supplied ketamine to the late Hollywood actor Matthew Perry has been sentenced to two years in prison in the USA.

On Wednesday, Erik Fleming received this sentence after pleading guilty in August 2024 to conspiracy related to ketamine distribution and to the distribution that led to death. According to prosecutors, Fleming provided ketamine vials to Perry’s live-in personal aide, Kenneth Iwamasa, who subsequently administered the lethal dose.

US Judge Sherilyn Garnett also mandated that Fleming undergo three years of supervised probation post-release, as confirmed by the Justice Department.

Medical examiners determined that Perry passed away in October 2023 due to the acute effects of ketamine. The drug, along with other contributing factors, caused him to lose consciousness and subsequently drown in his hot tub at the age of 54.

Best known for portraying Chandler Bing on the acclaimed sitcom Friends, Perry had candidly discussed his ongoing battle with substance addiction throughout his career.

Ketamine, a short-acting anesthetic, is legally used for treating conditions like depression and anxiety. However, it is often misused recreationally due to its hallucinogenic properties.

Fleming is the fourth of five individuals to be sentenced in relation to the ongoing investigation of Perry's tragic death.
