At Sur Referral Hospital, a highly skilled surgical team has accomplished a complex operation to extract a stage four colon tumor, marking a key milestone in Oman’s healthcare landscape. This surgery was conducted in collaboration with experts from the Royal Hospital, showcasing the advancements of regional medical facilities throughout the Sultanate.
Dr. Badr bin Rashid Al-Jaafari, head of the Surgery Department, reported that the patient was suffering from a colon tumor measuring around 12 centimeters. The tumor had infiltrated the abdominal wall, the right uterine tube, and the ovary, escalating the complexity of the surgical procedure, which demanded exceptional surgical proficiency.
Spanning approximately three hours, the surgery concluded successfully with the complete removal of the tumor and all compromised tissues while upholding the utmost standards of patient safety and surgical accuracy. This procedure has been described by medical officials as one of the most intricate surgeries performed at the hospital.
Previously, such advanced surgeries were predominantly performed at the Royal Hospital in Muscat. Achieving this feat at Sur indicates significant progress in the decentralization of specialized healthcare services, broadening access to advanced medical treatments throughout Oman’s regions.
The success also emphasizes the strong collaboration between healthcare entities within the country. The partnership between Sur Referral Hospital and the Royal Hospital aims to exchange knowledge, enhance medical skills, and provide high-quality healthcare services closer to the communities of Oman.
Plans are already in motion to expand specialized surgical services further, with the introduction of new departments, including vascular and urology surgery units. These initiatives are part of efforts to address evolving healthcare needs and improve hospital capabilities in supporting complex medical cases.
Medical experts suggest that accomplishments like this boost public trust in local healthcare institutions, minimizing the necessity for patients to travel to Muscat for specialized care. This successful operation symbolizes another step forward in Oman’s ambition to localize advanced healthcare services, enhance treatment access, and uplift medical care quality across the nation.
