Post by : Meena Hassan

The mixed doubles team from Thailand, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, showcased incredible perseverance and skill to win their eighth career title at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open. Taking place in India on January 18, the thrilling final saw them battle against Denmark's Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, ultimately triumphing in a gripping three-set match with scores of 16–21, 25–23, and 21–18.

Ranked world No. 4 and seeded third, Dechapol and Supissara advanced to the final after a stunning semi-final victory over the top-ranked Chinese pair, Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping. Their Danish opponents, positioned at No. 12, earlier pulled off a surprise by defeating the world No. 2 Chinese duo, Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.

The final was a fiercely contested showdown. The Thai pair initially led 19–16 in the first game but lost it 21–16. Displaying remarkable determination, Dechapol and Supissara saved four match points in the second game, securing a narrow 25–23 victory in a dramatic deuce that leveled the match.

The deciding game remained hotly contested, but the Thai duo capitalized on critical moments, concluding the match with a 21–18 victory. This win marks their first title of the year and adds to their impressive record of eight championships on the BWF World Tour, establishing them as one of the leading mixed doubles teams globally.

With this significant win, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran have set a definitive benchmark for the year 2026, highlighting the perseverance that embodies true champions.
