The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) in Thailand has stepped forward to clarify circulating rumors on social media regarding alleged gaps in the border fence near Cambodia in Chanthaburi Province. Officials assert that the claims are misleading and do not provide an accurate depiction of the current status.
As reported by the Thailand Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC), the so-called gaps are simply work zones within a broader border fence construction initiative. They explained that these openings are deliberately maintained during specific phases of development and do not signify any structural issues or security vulnerabilities.
The ministry indicated that various images circulated online depict incomplete sections of the project, lacking the complete narrative that would contextualize the construction. This has led to confusion among the public, stirring undue anxiety about border security.
Officials further clarified that temporary removable steel mesh panels are being used in designated areas to ensure access for inspections, maintenance tasks, and the confirmation of border markers as per existing regulations. These provisional openings are an expected aspect of the project’s design and execution.
This announcement was prompted by the ongoing efforts of the Anti-Fake News Center to monitor online falsehoods. As of June 4, 2026, the center reported noticing over 160,000 online communications, with numerous needing verification. Many social media narratives were flagged as misleading, false, or lacking contextual clarity.
Government officials are urging the public to depend on verified information from credible sources rather than making assumptions based on fragmentary images or reports. They highlighted that misinformation regarding national security issues can provoke unnecessary public alarm and diminish trust in official communications.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society reiterated its dedication to countering misinformation and fostering the dissemination of accurate information. Citizens are encouraged to confirm facts before sharing content online and to reference official government resources whenever uncertainties arise concerning public policies, security topics, or infrastructure undertakings.
