Thailand has unveiled the country’s first Thai-language e-learning platform dedicated to investigative interviewing aimed at bolstering criminal investigations, a notable advancement in upholding professional standards in the justice system. This initiative is designed to equip law enforcement officers and legal professionals with training that meets international benchmarks, while also emphasizing practices aligned with human rights.
The launch was graced by prominent figures from the Ministry of Justice, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, the Norwegian Embassy, the Office of the Attorney General, alongside representatives from the Thailand Institute of Justice. This program underscores a commitment to evolving investigative methods and enhancing the quality of criminal inquiries in Thailand.
Police Colonel Itthikorn Chiratnanon represented the Minister of Justice during the event. It gathered experts from various investigative agencies, prosecutors’ offices, human resources, and other institutions engaged in the justice sector.
This learning platform was created through a partnership that included the Thailand Institute of Justice, UNODC, the Legal Studies Institute of the Office of the Attorney General, and the University of Oslo. The initiative provides access to internationally recognized investigative interviewing techniques for the first time in Thai, making advanced education more attainable for local practitioners.
Officials highlighted that effective investigative interviewing is vital for the criminal justice framework. Adopting the right methods can enhance evidence collection, minimize wrongful accusations, and guarantee that investigations uphold fairness and respect for the rights of all parties involved.
The online nature of the platform is anticipated to broaden professional development reach across Thailand. Investigators nationwide will gain access to premium educational resources, facilitating uniform standards and effective practices throughout the law enforcement and judicial systems.
Authorities are optimistic that this program will foster significant enhancements in investigative abilities, transparency, and accountability. By marrying global expertise with local needs, Thailand seeks to build public confidence in its justice system while ensuring that investigative practices adhere to international standards and human rights values.
