Thailand has initiated a transformative approach to public health with the launch of its nationwide fitness initiative, designed to promote an active lifestyle among individuals of all ages. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the significance of regular physical activity and foster a culture of healthful living throughout the country. It embodies the government's long-term commitment to enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
The official launch of this campaign took place on April 29, 2026, at Phra Pholbodee Plaza in the National Stadium, Bangkok. Natthariya Thaweewong spearheaded the ceremony, emphasizing the critical role physical activity plays in everyday existence. Senior officials, sports leaders, and representatives from various organizations participated in the event.
Titled “Move Together: Healthy Nationwide,” this program is organized by the Department of Physical Education, part of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. It supports national growth through health and sports initiatives, aligning closely with King Maha Vajiralongkorn's vision that underscores sports' societal value.
A standout feature of the event was the introduction of line dance as the primary exercise. Selected for its simplicity and enjoyment, this activity can be performed by individuals across all age brackets, making it approachable for both novices and seniors who wish to remain active.
Over a thousand participants gathered at the venue, with many more joining virtually from all seventy-six provinces, showcasing widespread public interest and highlighting the potential for community connections through shared activities.
The initiative aims to lower the incidence of non-communicable diseases by promoting regular exercise. Health professionals advocate that ongoing physical activity can ward off issues like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. By emphasizing fitness on a national scale, the government aspires to minimize healthcare costs and enhance the overall well-being of its citizens.
The Department of Physical Education has laid a robust framework for this initiative, establishing a network of sports volunteers and community exercise clubs. With over seven hundred trained volunteers and more than two thousand six hundred clubs, the campaign seeks to expand fitness outreach nationwide.
To encourage public engagement, a nationwide line dance competition has been introduced. Open to individuals aged twenty-five and older, this contest allows participants the chance to win a royal trophy and cash prizes, culminating in a final event at a prominent indoor sports venue in Bangkok.
This initiative signifies a substantial step by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to transform health policies into actionable strategies. By motivating citizens to engage in regular exercise and making fitness activities accessible, Thailand is paving the way for a healthier, more active society in the years to come.
