New Overtime Regulations for Security Guards in Thailand Effective April 24

New Overtime Regulations for Security Guards in Thailand Effective April 24

Post by : Shakul

The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) in Thailand has issued a reminder to employers regarding the accurate compensation of overtime for security guards under new regulations taking effect on April 24, 2026.

Initially published in the Royal Gazette in April 2025, this regulation is aimed at enhancing labor protection standards, particularly for individuals serving as security personnel or undertaking similar roles.

According to the Director-General of DLPW, the new law seeks to guarantee that workers attain fair wages reflecting current economic circumstances and their job responsibilities.

If employers assign overtime, they must compensate workers at legally stipulated rates. On typical workdays, employees are entitled to at least 1.25 times their hourly wages for overtime, while the rate on holidays must be not less than 2.5 times the hourly wage.

This law also covers employees who do not receive a monthly salary, ensuring equitable compensation standards for all workers in security roles.

Employers and employees may negotiate work hours beyond eight hours per day, but weekly hours must remain capped at 48, as per legal guidelines. Any time worked over eight hours daily must be compensated at overtime rates.

Employees are encouraged to report any violations by employers, with complaints acceptible via provincial labour offices, official online systems, or dedicated hotlines established by the department.

The DLPW stresses the necessity for strict adherence to these regulations to enhance working conditions and promote fair treatment for security personnel and related workers nationwide.
