Thailand Hosts National Ceremonies for Royal Bodhi Tree

Post by : Shakul

The Ministry of Interior in Thailand is calling upon Buddhists nationwide to engage in ceremonies celebrating the royal Bodhi Tree, scheduled for Visakha Bucha Day on May 31, 2026. This event aims to uplift Buddhist traditions, encourage collective unity, and promote spiritual reflection among participants.

As per Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Arsit Sampanrat, this initiative stems from a royal act by His Majesty the King, who bestowed the “Phra Sri Maha Bodhi Damasarajabopit” tree to the Ministry. This sacred Bodhi Tree was distributed among provincial governors throughout Thailand to celebrate the King's birth anniversary in 2025.

In Buddhism, the Bodhi Tree is profoundly significant as it embodies enlightenment and spiritual wisdom. Authorities assert that the royal Bodhi Tree project represents a symbol of national prosperity, harmony, and blessings for the Thai people, as well as fostering ties between local communities and their Buddhist heritage.

On Visakha Bucha Day, marking one of Buddhism's pivotal events, His Majesty the King has also generously provided artificial lotus flower arrangements for ceremonies nationwide. These offerings will symbolize devotion and merit-making at designated Bodhi Tree locations across every province.

Local administrations, in collaboration with government entities and religious organizations, will coordinate simultaneous ceremonies throughout all 76 provinces. These events are set to commence at 8:39 PM on May 31, with provincial governors leading the ceremonies in their respective areas.

Officials emphasized that the lotus offering ceremony signifies gratitude, faith, and reverence towards Buddhist principles. This gathering is anticipated to unite diverse communities in shared acts of worship, while continuing Thailand’s rich religious and cultural legacy.

The Ministry of Interior has urged citizens to join the ceremonies with their families and engage in merit-making activities. Authorities are optimistic that this event will boost social cohesion, enhance Buddhist values, and bestow blessings and prosperity upon individuals, families, and the country at large.
