The Thai government has expressed enthusiasm towards a recent public opinion poll indicating significant backing for the TH-AI Passport initiative, aimed at enhancing access to artificial intelligence and bolstering the digital economy. Officials view the survey results as a sign of increasing public trust in AI for promoting both economic and social advancement.
Conducted by the Super Poll Research Institute, the survey found that awareness of artificial intelligence is pervasive in Thailand. An impressive 91 percent of respondents acknowledged familiarity with AI, with over 72 percent incorporating it into their daily routines, education, or work contexts. These statistics reflect Thailand’s swift progression towards a technologically advanced and knowledge-centric society.
Notably, 63.7 percent of participants express their approval for the government's TH-AI Passport initiative, contingent on its transparent operations and accountability, reaffirming the public's desire for technological advancements to enhance living standards and foster new opportunities.
Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated the administration views AI as not merely emerging technology but rather a vital strategic resource for increasing productivity, generating jobs, lowering expenses, and boosting economic competitiveness. She reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing the project with a foundation of transparency and public accountability.
Public sentiment demonstrated robust expectations for AI's role in development; over 91 percent of individuals sought AI solutions to enhance income and create business prospects, while nearly 89 percent recognized its potential to elevate Thailand's competitive edge. Significant numbers also endorsed utilizing AI to enhance education access, modernize learning, and develop future workforce skills.
The government outlined five primary objectives, which include leveraging AI to enhance individual earnings, boost national competitiveness, bridge the digital divide, elevate education and workforce skills, and implement AI for public safety along with support for vulnerable demographics like children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
Officials highlighted that the TH-AI Passport project will be reinforced by extensive initiatives, encompassing AI training sessions, community learning hubs, access to digital resources, and expert assistance. The government believes these strategies will cultivate an inclusive AI ecosystem that benefits all citizens and fosters their participation in an advancing digital economy.
