Deputy Prime Minister Supajee Suthamphan has reaffirmed Thailand’s ambition for a “365 Days of Amazing Thailand” tourism initiative, which seeks to promote year-round travel while urgently addressing the pressing matter of PM2.5 air pollution.
During a recent Parliament session, she clarified that this initiative does not imply that all destinations will be accessible every day, irrespective of weather conditions. Rather, it showcases Thailand’s rich tourism calendar, with various regions presenting seasonal attractions throughout the year.
This strategy aims to enhance the country’s tourism potential by distributing visitor numbers across different regions and times of the year. The anticipated result is a steady flow of income for local communities, contributing to the sustainability of the tourism sector.
While discussing these initiatives, Supajee underscored that PM2.5 air pollution represents a significant public health risk. She acknowledged the necessity for environmental issues to be addressed in parallel with economic development initiatives.
The government is poised to implement measures targeting the underlying causes of pollution, which include restrictions on open burning and enhancements to air quality monitoring systems. These initiatives are structured to yield both immediate and lasting improvements.
Supajee highlighted the importance of balancing tourism growth with environmental stewardship, asserting that economic development must not compromise the quality of life for residents.
The government has recommitted to ensuring that the expansion of tourism is aligned with ecological responsibility, aiming for sustainable growth that safeguards public health throughout Thailand.
