Thirteen Lives Lost in Israeli Air Strikes Amid Ongoing Hezbollah Tensions

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Thirteen individuals lost their lives in southern Lebanon due to renewed Israeli air strikes targeting multiple locations, according to reports from Lebanon's health authorities and state media. These assaults occurred amidst a ceasefire that had been established between Israel and Hezbollah.

The National News Agency (NNA) of Lebanon indicated that six victims were confirmed dead, with seven sustaining injuries when an Israeli strike struck a residential building in Kfar Dounine overnight.

Additionally, the Lebanese health ministry reported that two paramedics from the Civil Defense service were killed on Tuesday while undertaking a rescue operation in Nabatieh. Another paramedic was injured during this incident, which followed an earlier attack that claimed another life.

Identified as Hussein Jaber and Ahmad Noura, the two paramedics' deaths prompted Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to express his grief, stating that ongoing Israeli strikes hindered efforts to restore peace in the area.

Lebanon’s health ministry has accused Israel of intentionally targeting emergency workers, asserting that such actions violate international humanitarian laws. They also noted that over 108 medical personnel have been killed during the conflict, with ambulance and healthcare facilities facing more than 140 attacks.

In a related incident, NNA reported the death of a Syrian man and injuries to his wife following an Israeli drone strike on a motorcycle in Tayr Debba.

The Israeli military has stated that it aimed at a suspect reportedly launching a surface-to-air missile at its aircraft. Furthermore, claims were made that Hezbollah fighters launched explosive drones towards Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, though no casualties were noted.

Three additional fatalities occurred later on Tuesday due to an Israeli strike on Jabshit.

Hezbollah has revealed that it launched drone attacks on Israeli military positions in Naqoura, Bayada, and Houla, alongside claims of targeting an Israeli soldier in Kibbutz Manara, situated in northern Israel.

The Israeli military has ramped up its operations in southern Lebanon recently, focusing on Hezbollah fighters and their infrastructure. Israeli officials have accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement facilitated by the US back in April.

In retaliation, Hezbollah has reportedly persisted with rocket and drone strikes aimed at northern Israeli targets and military installations in southern Lebanon.

Meetings are scheduled on Thursday in Washington between Israeli and Lebanese officials to seek resolutions to the ongoing strife.

The current conflict reignited on March 2, shortly after a joint US-Israeli attack on Iranian assets. Following this, Hezbollah responded with rocket fire into Israel, which led to extensive Israeli airstrikes and a ground incursion into southern Lebanon.

According to Lebanon's health ministry, the toll of the conflict has surpassed 2,869 lives since its inception, with over 380 deaths occurring since the ceasefire came into effect. In contrast, Israeli sources report 18 soldiers and four civilians lost during the same timeframe.
