In an intense Game 4 matchup on Sunday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves triumphed over the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 114-109, tying their NBA playoff series at 2-2. The standout player for Minnesota was Anthony Edwards, who lit up the scoreboard with 36 points, including a crucial 16 in the fourth quarter, aiding the Timberwolves in regaining control at the Target Center.
The game took an unexpected turn early in the second quarter when Spurs' Victor Wembanyama was ejected after a Flagrant 2 foul for elbowing Naz Reid in the neck. As Wembanyama exited the court amid roaring reactions from the audience, Minnesota saw an opportunity to capitalize on the absence of San Antonio's key player.
Despite the setback of losing Wembanyama, the Spurs battled valiantly throughout the game. De'Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper each contributed 24 points, while Stephon Castle added 20. Their relentless offensive strategies kept the Timberwolves on their toes, allowing San Antonio to stay competitive until the end.
Minnesota also received vital support from its bench, with Naz Reid contributing 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds after the earlier elbow incident. Rudy Gobert pulled down 13 rebounds, adding 11 points, while Julius Randle and Ayo Dosunmu made key plays in the final stretch as the Timberwolves navigated through intense pressure.
Though Minnesota faced challenges, including turnovers in the third quarter that led to an eight-point deficit early in the fourth, Edwards' clutch shooting and motivating presence allowed the Timberwolves to bounce back. Strong defensive plays and clever ball movement sealed the victory.
With the series now tied 2-2, both teams are eagerly preparing for Game 5 in San Antonio on Tuesday. The NBA is reviewing Wembanyama’s ejection and will determine if any further disciplinary measures are warranted. This series has quickly become a highlight of the NBA playoffs as both teams exhibit a fierce spirit and determination.
