In a heartbreaking incident, Saturday saw 15 Indian nationals lose their lives when a tourist boat capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam, as reported by state media. Search and rescue missions are in full swing as authorities aim to uncover the full details surrounding this tragedy.
The ill-fated vessel was carrying 36 individuals, which included 32 Indian tourists along with three crew members and one attendant.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the boat turned over shortly after leaving Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, en route to An Thoi Port. It is reported that turbulent waters and strong winds contributed to the capsizing.
Following the incident, all on board were thrown into the sea.
According to local media, 21 individuals have been rescued and transported to hospitals, with two still listed in critical condition.
Rescue teams are actively engaged in the area while local authorities seek to clarify the incident's specifics.
In light of the disaster, the Indian Embassy issued a statement via X, stating: "A devastating incident occurred when a boat carrying Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. Ongoing rescue operations are being conducted, and we are working to ascertain precise details of the event."
The embassy emphasized its commitment to helping victims and their families, setting up emergency control rooms at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy in Hanoi.

Following the disaster, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh contacted senior officials, aiming to stay updated on the situation from AP Bhavan in New Delhi, along with state authorities.
He inquired specifically about passengers from Andhra Pradesh who might have been involved in the tragic event.
Vietnamese authorities continue their rescue efforts, while officials work on identifying the victims and securing further information. The Indian mission is maintaining active communication with local officials, promising support for affected families.
