Three Lives Lost in Tragic Boat Capsize Near Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Port

Post by : Meena Hassan

Authorities reported that three French tourists tragically perished when their boat capsized off Oman’s coast on Tuesday. The incident transpired approximately 2.5 nautical miles from Sultan Qaboos Port in the Gulf of Oman. The vessel was transporting a total of 25 individuals, including several French tourists, a tour guide, and the captain.

The Omani police indicated that the boat suddenly overturned while traversing the waters adjacent to the port. This unforeseen event resulted in the heartbreaking deaths of three tourists. Meanwhile, two additional passengers suffered minor injuries and were promptly provided medical care.

Rescue teams rapidly arrived to conduct search and rescue operations for the remaining passengers. Authorities confirmed that those injured were treated and reported to be in stable condition.

An investigation has been initiated by Omani police to dissect the factors surrounding this accident. Aspects such as weather conditions, the boat's stability, and adherence to safety protocols are under scrutiny. The inquiry aims to uncover the root cause of the accident to avert future occurrences.

Local officials conveyed their sympathies to the families of the deceased and affirmed their dedication to enhancing maritime safety in the area. In light of this incident, there are increasing calls for more stringent regulations governing tourist vessels in Omani waters.

This sorrowful occurrence underscores the inherent risks associated with maritime tourism and the critical need for robust safety measures for all travelers and crew members. Updates regarding the investigation and any other developments will be shared as authorities proceed.
