A sorrowful end unfolded in Delhi as 80-year-old Radhe Shyam Aggarwal succumbed to his ailments at a Saket hospital on Tuesday, following the loss of eight family members in a harrowing hotel fire in Malviya Nagar. His passing means the Aggarwal family has been entirely wiped out, marking one of the most devastating familial tragedies seen in recent times.
The aged patriarch was receiving treatment for a respiratory condition when tragedy struck at a nearby bed-and-breakfast where his family was lodged. They had chosen this location for proximity to the hospital, making it easier for them to tend to him while avoiding the lengthy journey from Gurugram.
Those lost in the disaster included Vivek Aggarwal, his son; wife, Prem Lata Aggarwal; daughter-in-law, Tarjani Aggarwal; and granddaughters, Jivisha and Varya, among other kin. The relatives had congregated in Delhi to provide support during the patriarch’s illness.
Family members noted that Radhe Shyam Aggarwal remained unaware of the calamity that had unfolded nearby. In his final moments, he was reportedly inquiring about the whereabouts of his loved ones, unaware that they had all perished.
An especially touching aspect of this tragedy involved his granddaughter, Jivisha, an engineering student who had traveled from Bengaluru specifically to visit him. Family recalls that he had proudly shared with hospital personnel that his granddaughter came from afar to see him in his time of need.
This devastating fire not only claimed numerous lives but erased an entire family unit, leaving the Aggarwal home in Gurugram desolate—a painful echo of a once vibrant household. Friends and distant relatives grapple with the staggering impact of this loss.
Authorities are actively investigating the events that led to the hotel fire. The tragic demise of nine members from one family in a mere week has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, highlighting the severe repercussions of a single catastrophe. The void left by the Aggarwal family will resonate far beyond the news cycle.
