Georgia Shooting Claims Four Lives, One Indian National Among Victims

Post by : Meena Hassan

Tragedy struck in Georgia as an Indian national was identified among four victims in a shooting incident, confirmed by the Indian consulate in Atlanta. This event, linked to a family dispute, took place in Lawrenceville early on Friday.

The Indian Consulate's social media statement expressed deep sorrow for the victims and urged support for the bereaved family, following the suspect's arrest.

Authorities named the suspect as Vijay Kumar (51), who resides in Atlanta, and reported his apprehension on severe charges related to the fatalities.

The deceased include Meemu Dogra (43), Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38). Investigators revealed that all four adults suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Emergency services received a distress call around 2:30 am (local time) from a home on Brook Ivy Court. Arriving promptly, officers found the victims dead inside the residence.

Officials confirmed that three children were in the house during the shooting and took refuge in a closet. One child courageously called 911, providing essential information that facilitated a rapid police response.

Fortunately, the children were unharmed and later retrieved by a family member, as police reported.

Charges against the suspect include multiple murder counts, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children. The investigation is ongoing, and further details regarding the motive are awaited.
