A devastating incident unfolded in Buggenhout, Belgium, on Tuesday, as a train collided with a minibus transporting students, resulting in four fatalities and multiple injuries.
Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot reported that the school transport vehicle was struck by the train during the early morning.
The public prosecutor’s office has identified the deceased as two minors aged 15 and 12, alongside a 27-year-old teacher and the 49-year-old bus driver.
At the time of the accident, there were nine individuals aboard the minibus, including seven children, a supervisor, and the driver.
Authorities confirmed that five additional children who suffered injuries were hospitalized and are now in stable condition.
The surviving supervisor was also on board during the tragic event.
Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
