US President Donald Trump has confirmed that American security officials secretly moved him to another aircraft after the NATO summit in Turkey last month because of a potential threat linked to Iran.
Trump said the decision was made by the US Secret Service and the military. He added that he did not ask for detailed information about the threat.
The disclosure follows reports that Trump was covertly transferred from the presidential aircraft to a smaller military jet at Ankara airport after the summit.
Trump had appeared to board the familiar Air Force One following the NATO summit in Ankara on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. However, the aircraft was reportedly used as a decoy while the president was secretly moved to another plane.
According to previous information provided by US officials to CBS News, intelligence agencies had identified a credible Iranian threat. The reported threat included the possibility of a missile attack targeting the presidential aircraft.
The security operation was carried out without publicly revealing Trump's change of aircraft at the time.
Reports said Trump was moved through Ankara airport inside an airport catering truck as part of the effort to keep the operation concealed.
Images from the airport showed catering trucks positioned near Air Force One as Trump's motorcade arrived on the tarmac to depart following the NATO summit.
The reported transfer allowed the presidential aircraft to appear to be the plane Trump was using while he was secretly transported to a smaller military aircraft.
Trump has now confirmed that security officials made the decision to move him to another aircraft. He said both the Secret Service and the military were involved in the decision.
The president also said he did not seek detailed information about the nature of the threat, leaving the specific intelligence behind the security measure undisclosed.
