Trump Unveils $1.7B Fund to Aid Political Victims

Post by : Bianca Haleem

The office of President Donald Trump has revealed a substantial $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponisation Fund” dedicated to compensating individuals who feel they were unfairly targeted by political investigations and prosecutions.

This fund emerges from a legal settlement concerning Trump’s case against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding the unauthorized disclosure of his tax returns, with the total reaching $1.776 billion.

The initiative allows those who believe they were subjected to politically charged investigations by government agencies to seek financial redress. Cases from the administration of former President Joe Biden are likely to be included.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche articulated that the program aims to deliver a channel for those who identify as victims of “lawfare” and the political misuse of governmental power.

“Government resources should never be wielded as weapons against any American,” Blanche declared. He emphasized the Justice Department's intent to address historical injustices and prevent future occurrences.

This announcement has ignited a political discourse in the U.S., with advocates viewing it as progress towards accountability, while skeptics are questioning the management of the compensation framework.
