UAE Supports Stronger GCC-ASEAN Cooperation in Jakarta

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the third GCC-ASEAN meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The UAE Mission to ASEAN participated in the high-level meeting, which brought together representatives from GCC and ASEAN member states to review progress under the GCC-ASEAN Framework of Cooperation 2024–2028.

The discussions focused on the implementation of the framework and ways to turn agreed areas of cooperation into practical initiatives. Participants stressed the importance of stronger coordination and closer cooperation between the Gulf and Southeast Asian regions.

GCC and ASEAN Discuss Regional and Global Developments

The meeting also provided an opportunity for representatives to exchange views on recent regional and international developments. Discussions covered emerging trends and changing priorities that could influence cooperation between GCC and ASEAN countries.

Officials explored potential areas for deeper collaboration aimed at supporting shared prosperity, regional stability and sustainable development.

The meeting highlighted the growing importance of cooperation between the two regional blocs as they work to respond to evolving economic, political and development priorities.

UAE Calls for Practical Cooperation

During the meeting, the UAE Mission to ASEAN reaffirmed the country's support for the GCC-ASEAN partnership and its commitment to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in areas of common interest.

The UAE also stressed the need to translate the GCC-ASEAN Framework of Cooperation 2024–2028 into concrete initiatives that can address emerging challenges and the evolving priorities of both regions.

The UAE's participation reflects its continued efforts to strengthen partnerships with ASEAN member states and support broader GCC-ASEAN cooperation.
