UAE FNC Member Chairs Significant IPU Conference on Global Economic Trends

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Mira Sultan Al Suwaidi, an influential member of the Federal National Council’s (FNC) Parliamentary Division for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Chair of the Sustainable Development Standing Committee, presided over a pivotal committee meeting at the 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul.

Hosted by Türkiye's Grand National Assembly, the meeting also saw participation from Khalid Omar Al Kharji, who represented the UAE at this important global parliamentary gathering.

During the session, participants reviewed and endorsed the records of their prior meeting, followed by thorough discussions on a significant draft resolution titled “Building a fair and sustainable global economy.” This resolution underlines the essential role of parliaments in tackling global economic issues, such as curbing trade protectionism, reducing tariffs, and combating corporate tax evasion.

The meeting wrapped up with the formal adoption of the resolution, highlighting the vital nature of international parliamentary collaboration in fostering economic equity, transparency, and sustainable development globally.

This session underscores the UAE’s proactive stance in shaping global economic frameworks and its dedication to nurturing inclusive and sustainable growth on an international scale.
