This report highlights the UAE's unwavering commitment to upholding top-notch standards in nuclear safety, encouraging transparency, and engaging in global cooperation. It represents part of the UAE's duties as a signatory to the Convention on Nuclear Safety, which aims to ensure the secure operation of nuclear power plants across the globe.

Key Achievement: All Barakah Units Operational

A pivotal aspect of the report is the complete commercial operation of all four units at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. This milestone signifies a notable success in the UAE's peaceful nuclear energy initiative and strengthens its dedication to sustainable energy security.

Enhanced Regulatory Developments

These initiatives are designed to tackle emerging challenges and ensure long-term safety and sustainability.

Operational Improvements and Workforce Training

Nawah Energy Company has reported enhanced operational results at Barakah, featuring efficient refuelling outages and secure maintenance operations.

The firm is focusing on promoting a safety-oriented culture through independent evaluations and increased workforce involvement, alongside investments in training to cultivate domestic expertise. Partnerships have also aided in the enhancement of the UAE’s nuclear supply chain.

Commitment to Global Safety Standards

The UAE has reaffirmed its commitment to international best practices, aligning with IAEA safety recommendations and implementing the principles of the Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety.

The report emphasizes efforts to:

  • Address past review recommendations

  • Improve emergency preparedness measures

  • Encourage innovation and research in nuclear safety

Global Responsibility and Engagement

Christer Viktorsson noted that the report underscores the UAE's dedication to maintaining a strong and evolving regulatory system while guaranteeing safe operations at Barakah.
