A fascinating celestial phenomenon known as a “Blue Moon” will be visible in the UAE and globally on May 31.
The full moon will start to become visible the evening of May 30, achieving its maximum brightness at 3:45 AM on May 31. According to astronomers, the prime time for viewing will be just prior to sunrise when the moon is low in the western sky. However, the most spectacular view is anticipated on the night of May 30, as the moon shines at its fullest.
Despite its name, the Blue Moon won’t actually appear blue. The term signifies the unusual nature of the event rather than any change in color.
There are two classifications of Blue Moons. The first is referred to as a “monthly Blue Moon,” which is the second full moon occurring in a single month. The second is known as a “seasonal Blue Moon,” which is the third full moon in a season containing four full moons.
This uncommon lunar cycle takes place approximately seven times over 19 years. Following the May 2026 occurrence, the next Blue Moons are projected for December 31, 2028, September 30, 2031, July 31, 2034, and January 31, 2037.
