Abu Dhabi, UAE — His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has initiated the formation of the Community-Managed Virtual Authority. This groundbreaking concept takes inspiration from the late Sheikh Zayed’s vision, aiming to elevate the contribution of skilled citizens in determining the future of the nation.
This launch coincides with the end of the Year of Community, presenting a unique governance paradigm centered on community involvement. For the first time, qualified UAE citizens will take charge of a public authority, with leadership roles such as Director General and team members rotating regularly, responsible for crafting sustainable solutions beneficial to the nation and its populace.
This initiative showcases the President’s commitment to empowering individuals, capitalizing on their talents, and investing in human resources to meet society's changing needs. It aligns closely with the UAE Centennial 2071 vision, which prioritizes human advancement, innovation, and positions the UAE as a trendsetter in future governance.
The Virtual Authority uses a flexible appointment system based on set criteria like expertise, competence, and effective contribution capability. Rotating leadership fosters a continual exchange of fresh insights and enhances community engagement while promoting shared responsibility.
The authority aims to engage a diverse array of Emirati participants—ranging from professionals and youths to academics and retirees—on a rotating basis. This diversity enhances generational dialogue and optimizes community skill utilization for national development.
The primary objective is to create innovative and practical initiatives that meet community requirements, bolster social bonds, enhance lifestyles, and back sustainable developments. The operations are guided by clear policies and frameworks to ensure stability and progress, regardless of leadership shifts.
By aligning with national strategies and focuses, the authority boosts public confidence in participatory governance. It stands as a global illustration of community-driven governmental innovation, combining administrative adaptability with direct investment in human capital.
The launch signifies a lasting tribute to the Year of Community by incepting its ‘Hand in Hand’ ethos into a sustainable, institutional framework, transforming temporary measures into enduring, community-led governance that empowers citizens to partake actively in the nation's progress.
