UK Greenlights $608 Million Typhoon Radar Enhancement

The UK government has given the green light to a substantial defence deal valued at 453 million pounds, approximately 608 million US dollars, aimed at upgrading radar systems on Typhoon fighter jets. Officials assert that this initiative will bolster the nation’s safety in light of escalating security threats, particularly those associated with Russia.

The contract has been awarded to prominent defence firms, such as BAE Systems and Leonardo. This upgrade will equip the Typhoon fleet with the advanced ECRS Mk2 radar, significantly enhancing pilots' ability to detect threats, track multiple targets, and engage effectively in contemporary combat scenarios.

The firm has cautioned that without this deal, it may face factory closures in southwest England, jeopardising around 3,000 jobs.
