Vietnam Expedites Public Investment Disbursement for 2026

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam has launched decisive actions to enhance the allocation and disbursement of public investment funds for 2026, aiming to propel economic growth and ensure effective use of state resources. This initiative follows directives from Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang.

Data reveals that by March 31, 2026, merely 11% of the intended public investment capital had been allocated. This marks a modest increase from the previous year, yet many ministries, central authorities, and local governments are still trailing in both fund allocation and utilization.

Key factors contributing to the sluggish pace have been identified, including lax administrative discipline, insufficient leadership decisiveness, and project preparation delays. In certain instances, funds have been available but projects remained uninitiated due to incomplete planning or regulatory hurdles.

In response, the government has mandated all relevant entities to draft precise disbursement timelines for each initiative on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This approach aims to enhance oversight, accountability, and the speed of execution.

Specific responsibilities have been allocated to officials for each project to ensure accountability. The government has stressed that the timely disbursement of public investment is a primary political focus and a crucial metric for assessing the performance of institutions.

Additionally, authorities are instructed to reallocate funding from underperforming projects to those that are advancing more effectively and demand higher attention. Immediate reporting is mandated for projects failing to utilize assigned funds, with strict compliance deadlines enforced.

The government further emphasized the necessity of enhancing project quality, implementing stricter regulations, and rewarding high performance. Concurrently, robust measures will be enforced against any delays, inefficiency, or corruption, including the removal of underperforming officials to secure the success of investment strategies.
