Vietnam is launching a comprehensive initiative aimed at bolstering support for war veterans, martyrs, and those who have made significant contributions to the nation. This effort coincides with the upcoming 51st anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification.
An official memorandum from Pham Thi Thanh Tra has directed the Ministry of Interior and local governing bodies to improve welfare measures, focusing on enhancing living conditions for those being honored. The government reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining established policies for recognizing the sacrifices of national heroes.
Local authorities are tasked with ensuring that commemoration gifts are distributed by April 28, 2026. Special considerations will be made for gravely injured and ill soldiers currently housed in specialized centers, ensuring they receive personal visits and enhanced support from local officials.
The initiative will meticulously address the needs of individuals suffering from wartime chemical exposure. Local administrations are expected to pinpoint residents in inadequate or unsafe housing, providing verified lists for targeted support and housing aid.
The Prime Minister has highlighted the necessity for streamlined administrative processes to authenticate deserving individuals and ensure the seamless delivery of benefits. Plans for the renovation of memorial sites and enhancement of facilities dedicated to veterans and their families will also be implemented during the 2026–2030 timeline.
Moreover, authorities plan to actively engage the community to foster broader material and emotional support for these groups. The ultimate goal is to guarantee that by 2030, all individuals recognized for their services alongside their families enjoy a living standard that exceeds the community average.
This initiative underscores Vietnam’s unwavering pledge to honor its war veterans and nurture their families, reinforcing the spirit of national unity and collective responsibility during this pivotal historical occasion.
