The bushfire crisis in Victoria is escalating, with three people reported missing and multiple homes lost, as firefighters confront dozens of blazes throughout the region.
Emergency alerts are active across nearly half of Victoria, where extreme temperatures and fierce winds are creating perilous fire conditions.
New fires emerged on Friday near Horsham, Ouyen, Avalon, and Skipton. Fire crews are also tackling severe blazes close to Longwood and within Mount Lawson State Park near Walwa, alongside other fires in Victoria's alpine zones and Far East Gippsland.
Authorities have indicated that shifting wind patterns are complicating firefighting efforts. David Nugent, spokesperson for the State Control Centre, cautioned that worsening conditions could elevate the risk of new fires igniting.
Emergency services are on high alert as teams strive to safeguard lives and properties against unpredictable and rapid fire movements.
