Yas Marina Circuit Cultivates Emirati Motorsport Potential

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Yas Marina Circuit reinforces its status as a premier venue for motorsport and community involvement, hosting over 180 events annually. These range from foundational karting sessions to elite competitions such as the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

According to Mohammed Al Hashemi, Director of Motorsport Programmes and Community Engagement, the “Al Sabq” talent discovery initiative has successfully identified promising young Emirati racers. Organized by Yas Heat Academy, this program aims to develop future motorsport stars from a young age.

The latest edition took place at Yas Kartzone with the cooperation of Mercedes-Benz, witnessing a remarkable increase in participation this year, with 26 children aged between five and seven joining in, including promising young female racer, Ameera Al Mheiri.

The circuit remains a vibrant hub year-round with events such as the Yas Speed Festival and Yas Super Street Challenge. Additionally, it promotes public fitness through weekly initiatives like TrainYAS, along with special women-only cycling and running sessions that see extensive community involvement. These endeavours are bolstered by sophisticated smart safety systems to ensure swift incident responses.

Yas Marina Circuit also provides a defined growth path for drivers, beginning at karting and advancing to single-seater racing. This framework has already benefitted talents like Rashid Al Dhaheri, currently affiliated with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Junior Team.

Through these efforts, the circuit aspires to cultivate a new wave of Emirati drivers capable of competing at the pinnacle of global motorsport within the next 15 years.
