Fighting Intensifies Along the Red Sea
The latest violence marks a significant escalation in Yemen's long-running conflict. Government military sources told AFP that Houthi forces were attempting to cut off the strategic port city of Mokha from other government-held areas.
Mokha has reportedly remained under pressure for weeks. The Houthi offensive is also said to be aimed at advancing toward areas close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, one of the world's strategically important maritime routes.
Houthi Forces Use Rockets and Drones
The clashes reportedly began on Thursday when Houthi forces launched a ground operation accompanied by rocket and drone attacks. The attacks targeted areas near Yemen's Red Sea coast as well as positions around Taiz.
