Zayed National Museum, the UAE's national museum, has revealed its Learning and Public Engagement Programme for May. Visitors are invited to delve into the country’s extensive history and heritage through various guided tours, workshops, and engaging educational experiences.
A standout feature this month is the “A Dive into Pearling” series, highlighting the cultural and historical significance of pearl diving in the UAE. This initiative includes specialized tours and hands-on workshops where attendees can discover the preparation of pearl divers and the key skills and traditions that framed coastal life.
On May 6, the museum will honor the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces, a pivotal moment in the nation’s journey. The event will showcase performances, workshops, and tours that celebrate national identity and unity. An Al Azi performance by Hamad Al Amri is scheduled for 6 PM.
To mark International Museum Day, a special weekend from May 16 to 18 will feature creative workshops and live performances emphasizing the importance of museums in fostering community connections.
During Eid Al Adha, the museum will host “The Joy of Eid” on the first day of Eid. Guests can expect cultural performances, family-oriented activities, and interactive experiences that highlight Eid traditions from various regions of the UAE.
The “From Museum to Community” initiative will also proceed with planned roadshows in Al Ain Region, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, promoting engagement with local cultures and experts.
The museum emphasizes accessibility and inclusion in its offerings. Programs like the UAE History Tour led by Emirati experts, storytelling tours in the “By Our Coasts” and “To Our Roots” galleries, and specialized experiences such as Quiet Morning cater to unusually diverse audiences, including a program called Al Dhuha Hour: Traditional Tassels designed for seniors, including those experiencing dementia, combining guided tours with creative workshops.
Throughout May, visitors can join ongoing tours such as A Walk Through Our History (available in Emirati Sign Language) and A Walk Among Our Wings. Family-friendly workshops include Oasis Weaving, Build Your Museum, Create Your Calming Necklace, and Tree of Values.
Additionally, the museum presents the Al Bahara on-site learning initiative, which offers hands-on sessions for students and educators, focused on the UAE’s maritime heritage, incorporating both boatbuilding and pearling traditions.
