At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making headlines in Indian cricket. He has been appointed vice-captain of Bihar’s Ranji Trophy squad for the first two rounds of the 2025-26 season. He will serve under captain Sakibul Gani, bringing his young but impressive talent to the team.
Upcoming Matches and Team Selection
The Bihar Cricket Association announced Vaibhav’s selection just two days before the season opener. Bihar will face Arunachal Pradesh in their first match, followed by a clash against Manipur on October 25. Vaibhav’s leadership and batting skills are expected to strengthen Bihar’s performance early in the tournament.
Success in Australia Highlights Talent
Suryavanshi recently impressed during a youth series in Australia. He scored a 78-ball century in a four-day match in Brisbane and accumulated 133 runs across three innings. His efforts helped India secure a 2-0 series win, marking him as one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket.
Early First-Class Experience
Despite being only 14, Vaibhav made his first-class debut in January 2024 at the age of 12 years and 284 days. He has played five matches so far, scoring 100 runs in ten innings, with a top score of 41. His ability to handle pressure and perform consistently has caught the attention of selectors and cricket fans alike.
IPL Success Boosts Profile
Vaibhav also made waves in the IPL 2025 season, playing for Rajasthan Royals in seven matches. He scored 252 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55. Notably, he became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket, hitting 101 off 38 balls against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.
Balancing Domestic and International Prospects
Vaibhav’s selection in Bihar’s Ranji squad is a major milestone. However, his schedule may be busy, as he is also a strong contender for India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in early 2026. His versatility and adaptability make him a promising player for both domestic and international cricket.
Bihar’s Squad for Early Rounds
Bihar’s squad for the first two rounds includes: Piyush Kumar Singh, Bhashkar Dubey, Sakibul Gani (c), Vaibhav Suryavanshi (vc), Arnav Kishor, Ayush Loharuka, Bipin Saurabh, Amod Yadav, Nawaz Khan, Sakib Hussain, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, Sachin Kumar Singh, Himanshu Singh, Khalid Alam, and Sachin Kumar.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s journey demonstrates a rare combination of youth and maturity. With his exceptional skill, leadership qualities, and recent achievements, he is poised to become a future star in Bihar and Indian cricket. His continued progress will be closely watched by fans and selectors alike.
