Prepare for a revival of a legendary classic. Microsoft and Halo Studios are thrilled to introduce Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the beloved 2001 title, Halo: Combat Evolved, scheduled to release in 2026. This new rendition aims to keep the essence that fans adore while offering a contemporary and breathtaking experience.
The game is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC through Xbox and Steam, as well as PlayStation 5, featuring full compatibility with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere. Notably, it will be available from day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Built entirely using Unreal Engine 5, Halo: Campaign Evolved promises enhanced 4K visuals, revitalized animations, redone voice lines, and remastered soundtrack. Developers are committed to conveying the emotional depth and atmosphere of the original while enhancing gameplay for today’s audience. The remake serves as an extension of the franchise, offering a “modern evolution” that remains true to its core.
In addition to reimagined core missions, three prequel missions will deepen the narrative by exploring events leading up to the original campaign. These new missions will introduce fresh environments, characters, and foes, enriching the lore of the Halo universe. Classic encounters will receive redesigns for better pacing, enhanced environmental storytelling, and more seamless navigation. Notable among them is The Library mission, which has been revamped to heighten both tension and ambiance.
Fans can anticipate a blend of nostalgia and fresh innovation, as nine new weapons making their first appearance in the original campaign include the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle. Vehicle gameplay has also seen significant upgrades, allowing players to hijack vehicles and control the Covenant Wraith tank, a feature absent in the 2001 version.
Gameplay enhancements such as optional sprinting, a broadened Skull system offering the highest number of modifiers ever in a Halo campaign, full four-player online co-op, and the revival of two-player split-screen on consoles ensure enjoyment for both seasoned veterans and new fans alike.
With this initial campaign, Halo Studios aims to create the ideal entry point for newcomers while honoring the cherished experiences of long-standing fans. Attendees at the Halo World Championships will get an early glimpse into this reimagined universe.
