The Abu Dhabi Family Business Council (ADFBC), part of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Family Business Council Gulf (FBCG), a non-profit that supports family businesses across the GCC. The partnership aims to strengthen the sustainability, governance, and global competitiveness of family enterprises, positioning Abu Dhabi as a hub for private sector leadership and long-term business success.
The agreement, signed during Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW), covers key areas such as leadership development, family governance programs, succession planning, and business continuity. Both councils will organise training workshops, forums, and benchmarking studies to address challenges facing family businesses in the region and share best practices for strategic planning and growth.
Under the partnership, Abu Dhabi will host specialised programmes for next-generation leaders, encourage knowledge-sharing between local and regional business communities, and conduct high-level events connecting policymakers, experts, and family business leaders. The initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s economic goals, supporting multi-generational enterprises and reinforcing their role in the region’s economic development.
Family businesses are a critical part of the UAE economy, contributing 60% of GDP, employing 80% of the workforce, and representing about 90% of private sector companies. Globally, such enterprises generate nearly 70% of GDP and employ over 60% of workers. The new agreement is expected to create a reference framework for family businesses in Abu Dhabi and the UAE, helping them grow sustainably while fostering intergenerational leadership and long-term economic stability.
