Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Jaouadi made a big achievement on Sunday by winning the men’s 1500-meter freestyle event at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. He completed the long-distance race in 14 minutes and 34.41 seconds, beating top swimmers from around the world.
This race is one of the longest swimming events in the championship. It tests a swimmer's strength, patience, and focus. Jaouadi stayed strong and steady during the whole race and pushed hard in the final laps to win the gold medal.
Germany’s Sven Schwarz finished close behind him and took the silver medal. It was a tight competition, with Schwarz trying hard to catch Jaouadi until the very end. The bronze medal went to Bobby Finke from the United States, who is also the current world record holder in the 1500m freestyle. Even though Finke swam well, he could not keep up with Jaouadi and Schwarz in the final stretch.
Double Gold for Jaouadi at the Singapore Championships
This was not the only success for Ahmed Jaouadi at this championship. Earlier in the tournament, he also won the gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle. This means he has now won two gold medals at the same event.
Winning both the 800m and 1500m freestyle races is not easy. These are long races that require high energy and strong swimming techniques. Jaouadi showed that he is one of the best swimmers in the world in long-distance events. His victories brought pride to Tunisia and made headlines around the world.
France’s Leon Marchand Wins 400m Individual Medley
In another exciting race on Sunday, Leon Marchand from France came first in the men’s 400-meter individual medley. He completed the race in 4 minutes and 4.73 seconds, showing excellent skill in all four swimming strokes—butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.
The individual medley is a very challenging event because swimmers must use all four strokes. Marchand was strong in every part of the race and stayed in the lead from start to finish.
Tomoyuki Matsushita from Japan finished second and won the silver medal, while Ilya Borodin from Russia came third to take the bronze medal. All three swimmers performed well and gave the audience an exciting race to watch.
Ruta Meilutyte Fastest in Women’s 50m Breaststroke
In the women’s 50-meter breaststroke, Ruta Meilutyte from Lithuania won the gold medal with a time of 29.55 seconds. This race is short and fast, so even the smallest mistake can cost a swimmer a medal. Meilutyte was very quick off the starting block and swam with power and focus.
Qianting Tang from China came in second and got the silver medal, while Benedetta Pilato from Italy finished third and took the bronze. All three swimmers were separated by just a small fraction of a second, which shows how close the competition was.
Meilutyte’s win added another medal to her career, and she continues to be one of the best in short-distance breaststroke swimming.
Meg Harris Wins Women’s 50m Freestyle for Australia
Australia’s Meg Harris won the gold medal in the women’s 50-meter freestyle event. She finished the race in 24.02 seconds, just ahead of two swimmers from China.
The 50-meter freestyle is a race of pure speed. It is the shortest swimming event in the championships, and every swimmer tries to go full speed from start to finish. Harris had a perfect start and managed to stay in front until the end.
Wu Qingfeng won the silver medal and Cheng Yujie took the bronze medal, both representing China. It was a strong performance by the Chinese team, but Harris was the fastest swimmer in the pool that day.
Russian Swimmers Dominate 50m Backstroke
In the men’s 50-meter backstroke, Kliment Kolesnikov from Russia won the gold medal. He swam the race in 23.55 seconds, making him the fastest backstroke swimmer on Sunday.
His teammate Pavel Samusenko also had a strong swim and finished second, winning the silver medal. The two Russians celebrated their success together on the podium.
Pieter Coetze from South Africa came in third and received the bronze medal. Although he was not as fast as the Russian swimmers, Coetze showed great form and determination in the race.
Russia’s success in this event was a proud moment for their swimming team.
Canada’s Summer McIntosh Wins 400m Individual Medley
Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh won the gold medal in the women’s 400-meter individual medley. She finished the race in 4 minutes and 25.78 seconds, showing excellent technique and endurance.
This race, like the men’s version, includes four different strokes and is very hard to win. McIntosh led from early in the race and stayed ahead with strong turns and smooth swimming.
The race ended in a surprising result for second place. Jenna Forrester from Australia and Mio Narita from Japan both finished with the same time—4 minutes and 33.26 seconds. Because they had identical times, they both received silver medals. No bronze medal was given in this case.
McIntosh’s win was a highlight for Canada and showed her strong future in swimming.
A Memorable Day at the Aquatics Championships
Sunday was a day full of action and achievements at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. Swimmers from all over the world competed in different events and gave their best performances.
Ahmed Jaouadi was the star of the day with his second gold medal, but other swimmers like Leon Marchand, Ruta Meilutyte, Meg Harris, Kliment Kolesnikov, and Summer McIntosh also made big headlines with their gold-winning races.
The championship showed how swimmers from Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania are all competing at a high level. It was a true celebration of global talent, dedication, and sportsmanship.
The Spirit of International Sports
The World Aquatics Championships is more than just a sports event. It brings together athletes from many countries, each with their own story, their own hard work, and their dreams.
Sunday’s events proved that with focus, training, and team support, athletes can achieve great things. From Jaouadi’s double gold to McIntosh’s medley win, each swimmer inspired fans around the world.
The competition in Singapore continues, and many more exciting races are still to come. But for now, these winners have already left a mark in the history of international swimming.
