Antoine Semenyo is quickly making his mark at Manchester City, having scored in both of his debut matches for the team.
The Ghanaian striker, who transferred from Bournemouth for £65 million, opened the scoring in City's 2-0 League Cup semi-final first leg triumph against Newcastle. His entry has uplifted team morale, winning the admiration of fans and teammates.
Just a few days prior, Semenyo demonstrated his prowess with a goal during a staggering 10-1 victory over Exeter in the FA Cup. In the clash with Newcastle, he had another goal ruled out after a protracted VAR check, a disappointing moment for the team.
Reflecting on his transition, Semenyo remarked, “The setting here is incredible. Everyone is brimming with confidence and focused on success. Joining this squad has significantly boosted my self-esteem and made me feel at home.”
He continued, “It's been an eventful start, but I'm adapting quickly and relishing every moment on the pitch. I'm carrying the confidence I gained at Bournemouth and simply enjoying my play.”
Towards the end of the match, Rayan Cherki secured another goal, ensuring Newcastle’s defeat was even more pronounced, following the VAR review delays.
Despite the solid showing, City players were visibly frustrated with the disallowed goal and previous officiating calls. Manager Pep Guardiola pointed out two penalties his squad was denied during an earlier Premier League defeat to Newcastle, contributing to the tension.
City captain Bernardo Silva summarized the mood: “We should have had a 3-0 lead, but these situations arise, especially in this arena. It’s disappointing, yet we must remain focused and keep battling.”
With Semenyo's impressive debut and the team’s high spirits, Manchester City appears eager to advance in the competition.
