In other matches, sixth-seeded Jessica Pegula overcame a tough battle against fellow American Hailey Baptiste. Despite twice failing to serve out the match, Pegula managed to win 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6) on her seventh match point. She now moves on to play ninth-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova, who defeated Ann Li 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Third seed Coco Gauff cruised past Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima 6-1, 6-0 in just 51 minutes, showing dominant form after her semifinal appearance at the China Open. Meanwhile, Czech qualifier Kateřina Siniaková advanced by defeating Maya Joint 6-3, 6-1. Eleventh-seeded Naomi Osaka was also scheduled to play later in the day, adding more excitement to the tournament’s lineup.
