A tragic incident was reported from Bangladesh on Thursday, where a Hindu man was killed by a mob over allegations of blasphemy. The incident took place in Bangladesh’s Bhaluka area of Mymensingh district, according to local police officials.
The victim was identified as Dipu Chandra Das, who worked at a local garment factory and lived in the Dubalia Para area as a tenant. Police said an angry group attacked him around 9 pm, accusing him of making offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad. However, people questioned by the police were unable to clearly explain when or how the alleged remarks were made.
According to police, the attackers beat the man to death and later tied his body to a tree before setting it on fire. The incident happened on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, causing traffic disruption for several hours as a large crowd gathered at the scene.
A video claiming to show the incident later appeared on social media, showing a crowd filming the scene on mobile phones. Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the video. Police rushed to the area after receiving information about the crime and worked to control the situation.
The body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. No formal case has been filed so far, and police are trying to trace the victim’s family. Officials said legal action will be taken under the law once a case is registered.
