Burberry’s Comeback Test: London Fashion Week to Showcase Heritage and Style

Burberry, the iconic British luxury fashion brand, is preparing for an important moment in its recovery. On Monday, during London Fashion Week, Burberry will showcase its latest collection, giving the world a closer look at its attempt to combine classic British style with modern fashion.

The brand is currently undergoing a major turnaround under CEO Joshua Schulman. Since taking over, Schulman has focused on promoting Burberry’s British heritage in a way that appeals to people around the world. He has openly criticized past decisions, saying that some previous designs were too niche and not easily recognizable as Burberry. Now, the brand is aiming to be more clear and classic, while staying fashionable.

Creative director Daniel Lee, who joined Burberry in September 2022, is responsible for designing the new collection. His role has changed under Schulman, who has brought design and business teams closer together. Some investors have wondered how long Lee will remain in his role, but analysts say the creative director is just one part of the company’s bigger plan to grow.

Burberry has also used celebrities and cultural moments to strengthen its British identity. Actress Olivia Colman, who played Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, and musician Liam Gallagher from Oasis, have been part of campaigns highlighting British culture. Social media campaigns and appearances at events like Glastonbury festival have helped Burberry reach younger audiences. Even global political moments contributed to its visibility – during a recent visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to the UK, First Lady Melania Trump wore a Burberry trench coat, creating global attention for the brand.

Investors are closely watching these efforts. Since Schulman became CEO, Burberry shares have risen by 50%. Measures such as reducing the workforce by 20% have helped the brand improve efficiency. However, the true test of the company’s revival will come during autumn and winter – the months when Burberry earns most of its revenue. While sales have been slightly negative for the last seven quarters, the latest results showed only a 1% decline year-on-year, suggesting that the turnaround may be gaining strength. Analysts expect sales to return to growth in the coming months.

Portfolio managers and analysts have praised Burberry’s strategy. Anna Farmbrough, who manages Burberry shares at Ninety One, said, “The collections now are very classic and show clear heritage. The brand feels high fashion but remains recognizable as Burberry.” Jeremy Smith, a UK equities manager at Columbia Threadneedle, added, “It is important who the creative director is, but it shouldn’t define the business. Schulman has balanced design and business effectively.”

Burberry’s use of social media has also played a key role in reshaping its image. Unlike luxury product positioning, which can take years to change customer perception, social media campaigns allow the brand to reach wide audiences quickly and effectively. Highlighting British culture through famous personalities and major events has helped the company show both tradition and modernity.

For the public, Burberry’s London Fashion Week show is more than just a presentation of new clothing. It is a signal that the brand is serious about recovery, maintaining its heritage, and appealing to a global audience. The collection will feature classic trench coats and designs that reflect Burberry’s British roots while remaining stylish for today’s fashion-conscious consumers.

In conclusion, Burberry is at an important stage in its turnaround journey. CEO Joshua Schulman’s strategy of combining British heritage with smart marketing, strong creative direction, and efficient business management is being tested on the world stage. Investors, fashion critics, and customers are all watching to see if Burberry can grow its sales, regain prominence in luxury fashion, and maintain its status as a symbol of British style. The London Fashion Week runway will be the first real proof of whether this revival plan is successful.
