Thailand Enhances Job Security for Educators

Post by : Shakul

In a significant move to elevate the welfare of education personnel, the Thai government is transitioning thousands of contract workers to temporary employment status. This shift aims to enhance job security, increase morale, and improve working conditions for teachers and support staff nationwide.

As per the Prime Minister’s Office, this initiative is spearheaded by the Office of the Basic Education Commission within the Ministry of Education. A total of 7,588 contract roles will be transformed into temporary positions in the upcoming 2026 fiscal year, aligning with broader educational reforms.

Deputy government spokesperson Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn indicated that this policy seeks to provide educators with enhanced legal protections, welfare benefits, and more stable career pathways. Officials believe elevating the conditions for teachers will yield improved outcomes for students throughout Thailand.

As part of the new salary framework, assistant teachers with a five-year bachelor’s degree or a graduate diploma in teaching professionalism will earn up to 19,120 baht monthly. Those holding a four-year degree can expect around 18,220 baht, while teaching assistants and support staff will receive about 11,000 baht per month, inclusive of cost-of-living adjustments.

Government representatives noted that this adjustment is aimed at aligning salaries more closely with educational qualifications, job responsibilities, and actual duties performed in educational settings. This change will also address the uncertainties faced by contract workers, who previously lacked long-term job stability.

The Ministry of Education has directed regional education offices and affiliated agencies to expedite the process of recruitment and conversion of contracts. The goal is to finalize this transition between June 2 and September 30, 2026, ensuring that all designated personnel commence their roles under the new employment structure within this timeline.

Officials emphasized that all recruitment and contract processes must adhere to principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability. Analysts observe that this policy could mark a crucial advancement in strengthening Thailand's education system by enhancing teacher retention, elevating morale, and fostering higher standards in classrooms across the nation.
