Earlier this year, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) unveiled new guidelines under the Online Streaming Act, mandating that major streaming services contribute up to 15 percent of their Canadian earnings towards producing and promoting Canadian content. This change marked a substantial jump from the former contribution of 5 percent and was anticipated to impose significant financial pressures on global streaming firms over time.
