Charges Against Brampton Man After Hit-and-Run in Etobicoke

Post by : Shweta

A 40-year-old man from Brampton has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Etobicoke, which resulted in critical injuries to a pedestrian.

The collision occurred on Saturday night in the Rexdale vicinity, near Albion Road and Islington Avenue. Toronto Police Service reported that officers were dispatched around 9:23 p.m. following alerts about a severe accident involving a pedestrian.

Authorities claim that a 58-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when a red Toyota Corolla, heading west, allegedly veered into the opposite lanes and mounted the sidewalk, striking him before driving into a nearby parking area.

The vehicle reportedly collided with a fence and two parked cars before the driver fled on foot. Emergency responders rushed the injured pedestrian to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries. Two individuals who were passengers in the car also sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized.

The suspect, identified as Suraju Ishau, surrendered to the authorities the following day. He has been arrested and faces several charges, including dangerous driving that caused injury and leaving the scene of an accident.

Ishau is expected to appear in bail court as the investigation is ongoing. Officials encourage anyone with further information regarding the incident to step forward.

This case raises continuing issues surrounding road safety and hit-and-run incidents, with officials urging drivers to adhere to their legal obligation to stay at the scene and provide assistance following an accident.
