Charlie Kirk's Old Post Goes Viral After Kimmel Suspension

Charlie Kirk's Old Post Goes Viral After Kimmel Suspension

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

A post from 2017 by Charlie Kirk has become popular again after ABC decided to take Jimmy Kimmel off air. In the post, Kirk had written simply, “Jimmy Kimmel isn’t funny.” After Kimmel’s suspension, many of Kirk’s supporters reacted online, saying it felt like Kirk had “won” even after his death. Comments on social media included phrases like “Total victory” and “Still winning from above.”

Supporters celebrated Kirk’s influence and mocked Kimmel’s current situation. Some said, “Kirk has defeated the menace known as Jimmy Kimmel,” while others wrote, “Truer words have never been spoken.” Conservative podcaster Benny Johnson shared Kirk’s old post, saying, “We did it for you, Charlie. And we’re just getting started…”

Why Jimmy Kimmel Was Suspended

Jimmy Kimmel was taken off air after making controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s death on his late-night show. During his monologue, Kimmel criticized people he called the "Maga Gang" for trying to portray the young man who killed Kirk as someone else. He also made fun of President Donald Trump’s reaction to Kirk’s assassination.

Kimmel said, “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he calls a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish,” mocking Trump’s behavior. He also criticized the decision to lower flags at half-mast in honor of Kirk, saying it was being used for political purposes.

ABC and Nexstar Respond

Following Kimmel’s remarks, Nexstar, which owns ABC partner stations, decided to suspend his show for an indefinite period. The company said that all ABC-affiliated stations they manage would stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! and replace it with other programming.

Nexstar stated, “Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk.” The company emphasized that the suspension would last for the foreseeable future and that the network planned to focus on other shows instead.

Supporters Celebrate

The resurfacing of Kirk’s 2017 post gave his followers a sense of satisfaction. They shared screenshots, commented on social media, and celebrated the suspension of Kimmel as a form of justice for Kirk. Many used the moment to reinforce Kirk’s influence in American conservative circles and to criticize Kimmel’s actions.

Some users posted messages like, “Doing the Lord’s work from beyond. We miss you already, Charlie,” and “And now he isn’t employed, king… now he isn’t employed,” celebrating the fact that Kimmel had been suspended after his comments.

Political Reactions

Kimmel’s monologue had criticized certain political groups and Trump supporters, referring to them as trying to politicize the tragedy. This brought more attention to the late-night host, as well as a strong reaction from conservative media and social media users.

The suspension by Nexstar shows the tension between media freedom, political sensitivity, and public reactions to controversial statements made by high-profile TV personalities.

Impact on Media and Public

This incident has sparked debate about the limits of commentary and satire in American media. Some argue that late-night hosts should be free to comment on political and social events, while others believe that mocking a sensitive situation like a murder is unacceptable.

The resurfacing of Charlie Kirk’s old post has also shown how past social media activity can gain new attention and influence public perception, especially during highly publicized controversies.

Future of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The show’s suspension raises questions about when or if Kimmel will return to ABC stations owned by Nexstar. For now, other programming will take his time slot, and the network continues to monitor public reactions and feedback.

Observers are watching how this suspension will affect ratings, audience trust, and the wider cultural conversation about late-night hosts and political commentary in America.
